Rounding The Bases is a recovery oriented program,
the core of which centers around training, education, employment, and housing. The name is symbolic of a runner, the client,
attempting to score. The bases symbolize the steps in the process to becoming a productive member of society.
The target population is adult persons age 18 plus, who are any or all of the following: low income, homeless, ex-offenders,
recovering addicts, unemployable, physically or mentally challenged and of any race, creed, religion, ethnic background,
gender, or sexual orientation.
I believe this is a new, heretofore untried model for a recovery
program. I see the feasibility of addressing the hindrances to ongoing recovery; such as, unemployability due to criminal
background, lack of experience at acquiring and using life skills, lack of a living wage, and lack of affordable housing at
the onset of the recovery process. These issues if not immediately addressed serve as a major deterant to ongoing recovery.
Furthermore, to date, mental illness, addiction, incarceration, and homelessness, have been addressed as isolated occurances.
In reality, usually, these issues present in some combination.
